Our Story

Where Ancient Craft
Finds New Life

MiaoLux was born in a small silversmithing village in Guizhou, China — where a grandmother's hands moved with the memory of three thousand years, and her granddaughter wondered if anyone would remember.

Traditional Chinese ethnic jewelry crafting

The Beginning

A Village, A Grandmother, A Question

In 2019, our founder Sarah Chen traveled to Xijiang — the largest Miao village in China — not as a tourist, but as someone searching for something she couldn't name. She found it in the workshop of 74-year-old silversmith Wang Guiying, whose hands moved through silver like water through stone.

Wang's granddaughter, Mei, sat nearby, scrolling her phone. "She doesn't want to learn," Wang said quietly. "The young ones leave for the cities. In ten years, who will remember how to make the butterfly?"

That question became MiaoLux. Not as a charity, not as a museum — but as a living bridge between ancient hands and modern hearts. We believe the most powerful way to preserve a tradition is to make it irresistible.

Today, Mei has learned her grandmother's craft. She earns three times what she would in a factory. And her butterflies travel to 27 countries.

What We Stand For

Our Commitments

Artisan First

Every piece begins with a conversation. We visit artisan communities, learn their techniques, and ensure fair compensation — always above market rate. The artisan's name travels with every piece.

Heritage Preserved

We document every technique we encounter. Our archive now holds over 300 traditional patterns, 47 silversmithing methods, and 12 embroidery traditions — freely shared with cultural institutions.

Earth Conscious

Recycled silver wire, nano water-resistant coatings that replace toxic lacquers, bamboo coral alternatives, and packaging made from mulberry paper. Beauty should not cost the earth.

Uncompromising Quality

Every piece is inspected twice — once by the artisan, once by our team. We reject anything that doesn't meet our standard. A 3,000-year tradition deserves nothing less.
